An advanced study of the nature and purpose of environmental education including an examination of sustainability as a contested notion. Theories and pedagogical practices within environmental education in educational settings will be critically analysed in order to enhance professional practice.

Learning outcomes
At the completion of this course, it is intended that students will be able to:- Critically examine the nature and purpose of environmental education with a particular focus on sustainability as a contested concept.
- Critically analyse a variety of theoretical approaches to environmental issues and examine their implications for practice in education for sustainability.
- Critically analyse theoretical and pedagogical approaches within environmental education in educational settings to enhance professional practice.
