Course overview
This course is for anyone interested in gifted students.
It is suitable for teachers in the early childhood, primary or secondary settings as well as graduates of non-teaching degrees who work with or support gifted and talented young people.
Throughout this course you will gain the additional knowledge and skills to help you understand and cater for gifted students in your context. The knowledge and skills will be equally relevant to parents and those working with gifted young people in other settings.
You will have an opportunity to discuss topics that reflect New Zealand's distinctive contribution to the field of gifted education, as well as diverse international and intercultural perspectives, which will enable you to differentiate between myth and fact when supporting gifted learners.
The course will focus on essential strategies that encourage highly gifted and talented learners to flourish. -
Learning outcomes
At the completion of the course, it is intended that students will be able to:- To express informed opinion on provisions for gifted learners around the world.
- To differentiate between myth and fact in gifted education.
- To critically reflect on a range of literature that focuses on an area of interest in gifted education.
- To demonstrate in-depth understanding of the evidence-based literature on providing for gifted learners.
