A critical analysis of contemporary social work practice, utilising sociological perspectives and contemporary social theory. An in-depth exploration of how the professional discourse of social work is framed and how major social trends impact on that discourse in practice and the public domain.

Learning outcomes
At completion of this course, students will be able to:- Critically examine the development and practice of social work within settings, roles and relationships that it occurs.
- Assess the construction and impact of discourses that occur within and surrounding social work.
- Utilise sociological analysis, evaluation and reflection to influence renewal and innovation of social work as a profession.
