An integrated approach to social work research using a range of research strategies. Students apply research and practice principles to existing qualitative and quantitative datasets to engage in problem definition, critical review of relevant literature, research strategies and design, data analysis and reporting of research findings to inform professional practice in social work and social services.

Learning outcomes
At completion of this course, students will be able to:- Articulate an understanding of applied research and the concept of evidence based activity and their relationship to practice and policy development.
- Critically demonstrate knowledge of ethical considerations, processes, guidelines and / or requirements of research within a practice context.
- Demonstrate the ability to locate, review and report on evidence as it informs practice.
- Articulate an understanding of applied research approaches for a practice- based intervention.
- Demonstrate competence in the utilisation of data analysis software in both qualitative and quantitative environments.
- Demonstrate a practical appreciation of the relationship in both quantitative and qualitative research between theory, research design, analysis, and reporting.
- Visually and orally communicate research findings to an audience.
