Examines the professional and ethical mandate for research which aims to enhance the growth of all forms of knowledge that inform effective social work practice. Students are introduced, as research consumers and practitioners, to the principles, theories, ethics and approaches that inform social research as applied in social work contexts.

Learning outcomes
At the completion of the course, it is intended that students will be able to:- Articulate knowledgeably the process to conduct research in a professional context.
- Demonstrate the ability to locate, appraise and report on existing research and current literature as it informs evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrate confidence and skill in the selection of research strategies and methods to design a research project.
- Assess ethical considerations, guidelines and / or requirements of conducting research within a professional context.
- Articulate effectively a proposed project and its ethical implications in a research proposal.
