Following the logic of social work practice and evidence-informed interventions, students will examine relevant social work research literature and common approaches. They will critically apply ethical research and practice principles to problem definition, literature review, research strategies, proposals and design, and evaluation of evidence, culminating in a robust evidence-based approach to practice.

Learning outcomes
At the completion of this course, it is intended that students will be able to:- Apply knowledge and understanding of research approaches and processes to the social work practice environment.
- Identify sources of practice data routinely collected in a range of social work settings, and develop rationale and strategies for accessing and analysing those data to advance practitioner knowledge.
- Develop an understanding of major approaches to the analysis of quantitative and qualitative forms of data, and practice the application of those skills using the data analysis software applications, SPSS and NVivo.
- Demonstrate a practical appreciation of the relationship in both quantitative and qualitative research between theory, research design, analysis, and reporting.
