A critical examination of contemporary literature, research and evidence informed strategies in youth offending and recidivist behaviours, with an emphasis on the skills necessary for working successfully with this client group.

Learning outcomes
At completion of this course, students will be able to:- Critically articulate (conceptual/philosophical/legal) understandings of justice.
- Demonstrate an introductory knowledge of youth justice and support services in New Zealand.
- Demonstrate critical self-reflection upon professional social work practice with youth who have committed an offence.
- Describe and critically evaluate models and approaches to youth offending treatment.
- Critically evaluate key ideas related to youth justice.
